If n1, n2 and n3 are the fundamental frequencies of three segments into which a string is divided, then the original fundamental frequency n of the string is given by:
  1. 1n=1n1+1n2+1n3
  2. 1n=1n1+1n2+1n3
  3. n=n1+n2+n3
  4. n=n1+n2+n3

Solution

For first segment we have,

n1=12l1 Tμ

For second segment we have,
n2=12l2 Tμ

For third segment we have,
n3=12l3Tμ

For the whole string we have,
n=12l Tμ

Total length of the string is,
l=l1+l2+l3

Thus, the fundamental frequency for the whole string is,
1n=1n1+1n2+1n3
