If $\vec{a}$ and $\vec{b}$ are two unit vectors and $\theta$ is the angle between them, then the unit vector along the angular bisector of $\vec{a}$ and $\vec{b}$ will be given by
  1. ab2cosθ2
  2. a+b2cosθ2
  3. abcosθ2
  4. None of these

Solution

We have,

a=b=1

Hence, required unit vector in this direction is a+ba+b

Now, we know that resultant of a and b is given by

R=a2+b2+2a·b

a+b=a2+b2+2a·b

a+b=2+2cosθ

a+b=2cosθ2

Hence, unit vector along the bisector is a+ba+b=a+b2cosθ2
