If equation ( 10 x - 5 ) 2 + ( 10 y - 4 ) 2 = λ 2 ( 3 x + 4 y - 1 ) 2 represents a hyperbola, then

If equation (10x-5)2+(10y-4)2=λ2(3x+4y-1)2 represents a hyperbola, then
  1. -2<λ<2
  2. λ>2
  3. λ<-2 or λ>2
  4. 0<λ<2

Solution

Given, equation of hyperbola is

10x-52+10y-42=λ23x+4y-12 can be rewritten as

x-122+y-2523x+4y-15=λ2

This is of the form of PSPM=e

Where, P is any point on the hyperbola and S is a focus and M is the point of directrix.

Here, λ2>1λ>2  e>1

 λ<-2 or λ>2
