If D ,   E and F are respectively mid-points of A B ,   A C and B C in ∆ A B C , then B E…

If D, E and F are respectively mid-points of AB, AC and BC in ABC, then BE+AF is equal to
  1. DC
  2. 32BF
  3. 12BF
  4. 12DC

Solution

Given, D, E and F are respectively mid-points of AB, AC and BC of ABC.

Let OA=a, OB=band OC=c, then by using the mid-point formula, we have

OD=a+b2, OE=a+c2 and OF=b+c2.

Now AF=OF-OA=12b+c-a, BE=OE-OB=12a+c-b  and CD=OD-OC=12a+b-c.

 AF+BE=12b+c-a+12a+c-b

=-12a+b+c

=-CD=DC.
