If cosθ=-32 and sinα=-35, where θ does not lie in the third quadrant, then 2tanα+3tanθcot2θ+cosα is equal to

Solution

Given, cosθ=-32<0 and θ does not lie in third quadrant.

 θ must be lying in 2nd quadrant.

 tanθ=-13 and cotθ=-3  ...(i)

As, sinα=-35, thus α lies in 3rd or 4th quadrant.

If α is in third quadrant, then tanα=34 and cosα=-45.

 2tanα+3tanθcot2θ+cosα=2·34-3·133-45

=32-13-45=522.

If α is in fourth quadrant, then tanα=-34 and cosα=45.

 2tanα+3tanθcot2θ+cosα=2·-34+3·-133+45

=-32-13+45=-538.
