If α,β,γ,δ are the roots of the equation x4+x3+x2+x+1=0, then α2021+β2021+γ2021+δ2021 is equal to

Solution

We know that x4+x3+x2+x+1=0 can be written as 

x5-1x-1=0  x5=1

i.e. x=115

So α, β, γ and δ are the 5th  roots of unity except 1.

Now, from the concept of roots of unity, we know

 αn+βn+γn+δn+1n=0if n is not a multiple of 55if n is a multiple of 5

So, α2021+β2021+γ2021+δ2021=-1.
