If α and β, be the coefficients of x4 and x2, respectively in the expansion of x+x2-16+x-x2-16, then
  1. α+β=60
  2. α+β=-30
  3. α-β=60
  4. α-β=-132

Solution

x+x2-16+x-x2-16=2C0x6+C2x4x2-1+C4x2x2-12+C6x2-13

=2x6+15x6-x4+15x2x4-2x2+1+-1+3x2-3x4+x6

=232x6-48x4+18x2-1

Now given that α & β are the coefficients of x4 & x2 respectively, hence

α=-96 and β=36

α-β=-132
