Solution

Using Rydberg's formula,

1λ=RZ21n21-1n22

For the lowest wavelength in Lyman series, n1=1, n2=.

1λ=RZ2112-12=RZ2

For Balmer series, n1=2, n2=

1λ'=RZ2122-12=RZ24

So,

 1λ'=14λλ'=4×917  Å=3668  Å
