Identify the wrong statement with reference to immunity.

Identify the wrong statement with reference to immunity.
  1. When ready-made antibodies are directly given, it is called “Passive immunity”.
  2. Active immunity is quick and gives full response.
  3. Foetus receives some antibodies from mother, it is an example for passive immunity.
  4. When exposed to antigen (living or dead) antibodies are produced in the host’s body. It is called “Active immunity”.

Solution

Active immunity is the resistance developed by an individual as a result of an encounter with a pathogen. This involves the active functioning of the person’s immune apparatus leading to the synthesis of antibodies and production of immunologically active cells. Active immunity is long-lasting, slow, and is associated with immunological memory. The initial immunity is of low intensity called the primary response. On subsequent exposure, the immune response occurs more quickly and abundantly and is known as a secondary response.
