Identify the statements which are not correct? (i) $\mathrm{ZnO}, \mathrm{PbO}, \mathrm{Sb}_2 \mathrm{O}_3$ are neutral oxides. (ii) $\mathrm{CO}$ and $\mathrm{NO}$ are amphoteric oxides. (iii) $\mathrm{CrO}_3, \mathrm{Mn}_2 \mathrm{O}_7, \mathrm{~V}_2 \mathrm{O}_5$ are basic oxides.

  3. ii, iii
  4. i, ii,iii

Solution

(i) $\mathrm{ZnO}, \mathrm{PbO}, \mathrm{Sb}_2 \mathrm{O}_3$ are amphoteric oxides that have the properties of both acids and bases. They have acidic properties against bases and basic properties against acids. (ii) $\mathrm{CO}$ and $\mathrm{NO}$ are neutral oxides since they are oxygen poor compounds of non-metals. (iii) $\mathrm{CrO}_3, \mathrm{Mn}_2 \mathrm{O}_7, \mathrm{~V}_2 \mathrm{O}_5$ are acidic in nature.
