During the hydrolysis of interhalogen compounds, oxyacids of less electronegative or large sized halogen is formed and other halogen forms halogen acid. Thus, less electronegative iodine forms $\mathrm{HOI}$ and more electronegative chlorine forms $\mathrm{HCl}$. $\mathrm{ICl}+\mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O} \rightarrow \mathrm{HCl}+\mathrm{HOI}$
