Identify the correct statements from the following (A) The compressibility factor (Z) for an ideal gas is 1 (B) Urananium isotopes $\left({ }^{235} \mathrm{U}\right.$ and $\left.{ }^{238} \mathrm{U}\right)$ are separated by converting them into $\mathrm{UF}_6$ vapours (C) Decrease in temperature increases the kinetic energy of gas molecules
  1. A, B, C
  2. A, C only
  3. B, C only
  4. A, B only

Solution

$\mathrm{PV}=\mathrm{RT}$ for an ideal gas so $\mathrm{Z}=\frac{\mathrm{PV}}{\mathrm{RT}}=1$ Both, ${ }^{235} \mathrm{UF}_6$ and ${ }^{238} \mathrm{UF}_6$ are separated on the basis of their molecular velocities which are different for them. Kinetic energy is directly proportional to the temperature so a decrease in temperature would decrease the kinetic energy. Thus, (A) and (B) are correct.
