Given below are two statements:

Statement I: Two photons having equal linear momenta have equal wavelengths.

Statement II: If the wavelength of the photon is decreased, then the momentum and energy of a photon will also decrease.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below.

  1. Both Statement I and Statement II are false
  2. Both Statement I and Statement II are true
  3. Statement I is true but Statement II is false
  4. Statement I is false but Statement II is true

Solution

If linear momentum are equal then wavelength also equal.

The momentum p and energy E of a photon is given by,

p=hλ, E=hcλ; where c is speed of light and h is Plank's constant.

On decreasing wavelength, momentum and energy of photon increases.
