For which of the following liquid mixtures $\Delta_{\text {mix }} H=0$ and $\Delta_{\text {mix }} V=0$ ?

For which of the following liquid mixtures $\Delta_{\text {mix }} H=0$ and $\Delta_{\text {mix }} V=0$ ?
  1. Ethyl chloride, ethyl bromide
  2. Ethanol, acetone
  3. Phenol, aniline
  4. Chloroform, acetone

Solution

( Ideal solutions, are possible if molecules of solute and solvent are almost of same size and have identical polarity and they should have almost same inter molecular attraction. For example, solutions of ethyl chloride and ethyl bromide almost behave as ideal solutions. The characteristics of ideal solution is that no heat should be evolved or absorbed during the mixing, i.e. $\Delta H_{\text {mix }}=0$ and also no expansion or contraction on mixing, i.e. $\Delta V_{\text {mix }}=0$
