For the reaction SO 2 ( g ) + 1 2 O 2 ( g ) ⇌ SO 3 ( g ) , the percentage yield of product at…

For the reaction SO2(g)+12O2(g)SO3(g), the percentage yield of product at different pressures is shown in the figure. Then, which among the following is true?

  1. Pressure has no effect
  2. P1<P2<P3
  3. P1>P2>P3
  4. P1=P2=P30

Solution

So according to the concept of equilibrium reaction which is

SO2 +12O2  SO3 this reaction is favoured as exothermic reaction

When pressure is lowered, the forward reaction is favoured.

This increases the yields of SO3

So according to the question graph this will be possible when

P1>P2>P3
