For the parabola y 2 + 6 y - 2 x + 5 = 0 , match the items in List- I with the suitable item in List- II…

For the parabola y2+6y-2x+5=0, match the items in List-I with the suitable item in List-II given below:
List-I List-II
I Vertex A -32,-3
II Focus B 32,-3
III Equation of the directrix C 2x+5=0
IV Equation of the axis D 2x+y+3=0
    E y+3=0
    F -2,-3

The correct matching is

  1. I II III IV
    F A E C

  2. I II III IV
    F A C E

  3. I II III IV
    A B C D

  4. I II III IV
    F A C D

Solution

Given:

y2+6y-2x+5=0

y+32=2x+4

y+32=2x+2

The form: y-k2=4ax-h, where, the vertex is Vh,k

Therefore,

Vertex -2,-3

Now, 4a=2a=12

Now, we know that focus lies at a distance a from the vertex of the parabola.

Therefore,

-2+a=-2+12=-32

So, coordinates of focus are -32,-3

Equation of directrix in standard form is x+a=0 from the vertex.

Therefore, equation of directrix is

x=-2-12=-52

or 2x+5=0

And, axes is y=-3 or y+3=0.
