For the given cyclic process C A B as shown for a gas, the work done is:

For the given cyclic process CAB as shown for a gas, the work done is:

  1. 10 J
  2. 5 J
  3. 1 J
  4. 30 J

Solution

The work done in a cyclic process is equal to the area of closed P-V curve cycle.

Work done, W= Area of CAB

 W=12×AB×AC=12×(6-1)×(5-1)=10 J

In the given P-V graph, the process is clockwise. So, the work done will be positive which means that the system is doing the work.
