For isochoric process, the first law of thermodynamics can be expressed as
- $\Delta \mathrm{U}=\mathrm{Qv}$
- $-\Delta \mathrm{U}=\mathrm{Q}-\mathrm{P} \Delta \mathrm{V}$
- $-\Delta \mathrm{U}=-\mathrm{W}$
- $\mathrm{W}=-\mathrm{Q}$
Solution
For Isochoric process, Volume remains constant.
$\begin{aligned}
& \Delta \mathrm{V}=0 \\
& \mathrm{~W}=-\mathrm{P} \Delta \mathrm{V}=0
\end{aligned}$
First Law of thermodynamics,
$\Delta \mathrm{U}=\mathrm{q}+\mathrm{W}$
At constant volume condition, $\left(\mathrm{W}=0, \mathrm{q}=\mathrm{q}_{\mathrm{v}}\right)$
$\Delta \mathrm{U}=\mathrm{q}_{\mathrm{v}}$
Or $\Delta \mathrm{U}=\mathrm{Q}_{\mathrm{V}}$
