Find the value of spin only magnetic moment for chromium cation in +2 state.
Find the value of spin only magnetic moment for chromium cation in +2 state.
- $3.87 \mathrm{BM}$
- $4.90 \mathrm{BM}$
- $2.84 \mathrm{BM}$
- $1.73 \mathrm{BM}$
Solution
$\mathrm{Cr}^{2+}:[\mathrm{Ar}] 3 \mathrm{~d}^4 \Rightarrow \mathrm{n}=4$
$\therefore \quad$ Spin-only magnetic moment,
$\begin{aligned}
\mu & =\sqrt{\mathrm{n}(\mathrm{n}+2)} \mathrm{BM} \\
& =\sqrt{4(4+2)}=\sqrt{24} \mathrm{BM} \\
& =4.90 \mathrm{BM}
\end{aligned}$
