Ethyl isocyanide on hydrolysis in acidic medium generates

Ethyl isocyanide on hydrolysis in acidic medium generates
  1. propanoic acid and ammonium salt
  2. ethanoic acid and ammonium salt
  3. methylamine salt and ethanoic acid
  4. ethylamine salt and methanoic acid

Solution

$\mathrm{CH}_3 \mathrm{CH}_2 \mathrm{~N} \equiv \mathrm{C}+\mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O} \stackrel{\mathrm{H}^{+}}{\longrightarrow} \mathrm{CH}_3 \mathrm{CH}_2 \mathrm{NH}_2+\mathrm{HCOOH}$. Therefore it gives only one mono chloroalkane.
