Dissociation constant and degree of dissociation of weak acid are $1.8 \times 10^{-5}$ and 0.03 respectively. What will be the concentration of solution of weak acid?
  1. 0.2 M
  2. $\quad 0.02 \mathrm{M}$
  3. $\quad 0.5 \mathrm{M}$
  4. 0.05 M

Solution

$\begin{aligned} & \mathrm{K}_{\mathrm{a}}=\alpha^2 \mathrm{c} \\ \therefore \quad & \mathrm{c}=\frac{\mathrm{K}_{\mathrm{a}}}{\alpha^2}=\frac{1.8 \times 10^{-5}}{(0.03)^2}=\frac{1.8 \times 10^{-5}}{9 \times 10^{-4}}=0.02 \mathrm{M}\end{aligned}$
