Only primary amines can give carbylamine test.
$\mathrm{RNH}_{2}+\mathrm{CHCl}_{3}+\mathrm{KOH} ightarrow \mathrm{RNC}$
$\mathrm{Ar}-\mathrm{NH}_{2}+\mathrm{CHCl}_{3}+\mathrm{KOH} ightarrow \mathrm{Ar}-\mathrm{NC}$
Here, $\mathrm{R}$ - may be an alkyl or an aryl group.
Secondary and tertiary amines don't give carbylamine reaction test.
