Calculate the number of atoms in 0.3 gram metal if it forms bec structure $\left[\rho \times \mathrm{a}^3=3 \times 10^{-22} \mathrm{~g}\right]$
  1. $1.0 \times 10^{21}$
  2. $2.0 \times 10^{21}$
  3. $3.0 \times 10^{21}$
  4. $4.0 \times 10^{21}$

Solution

For bec unit cell, $\mathrm{n}=2$. No. of particles in $x \mathrm{~g}=\frac{x \mathrm{n}}{\rho \mathrm{a}^3}$ $\therefore \quad$ Number of atoms in 0.3 g of metal $=\frac{0.3 \times 2}{3 \times 10^{-22}}=2.0 \times 10^{21}$ atoms
