Assuming 1μg of trace radioactive element X with a half life of 30 years is absorbed by a growing tree. The amount of X remaining in the tree after 100 years is_____×10-1μg. [Given : ln10=2.303; log2=0.30]

Solution

λt=lnaa-x

we know that half life time t1/2 = ln2λ

So, λ = ln2t1/2

100=30ln2ln1w100=30log2log1w100=300.30log1wlog1w = 1

1w=10

W=0.1μg

=1×10-1μg
