Assume that light of wavelength 600 nm is coming from a star. The limit of resolution of telescope whose objective has a diameter of 2 m is:
  1. 1.83×107 rad
  2. 7.32×107 rad
  3. 6.00×107 rad
  4. 3.66×107 rad

Solution

Limit of resolution of a telescope is given by,

ϑmin=1.22λa, where λ is the wavelength of the light and a is the aperture diameter.

Given, λ=600 nm and a=2 m

ϑmin=1.22×6×1072

ϑmin=3.66×107 rad
