Assertion (A) All noble gases are monoatomic. Reason (R) All noble gases have very low melting and boiling points.
  1. Both $\mathrm{A}$ and $\mathrm{R}$ are correct and $\mathrm{R}$ is the correct explanation of $A$.
  2. Both $\mathrm{A}$ and $\mathrm{R}$ are correct but $\mathrm{R}$ is not the correct explanation of $A$.
  3. $\mathrm{A}$ is correct but $\mathrm{R}$ is incorrect.
  4. $\mathrm{A}$ is incorrect but $\mathrm{R}$ is correct.

Solution

All noble gases have completely filled valence shell. So, they do not form bonds with any other atom and hence they are always monoatomic. Since, the noble gases have weak interatomic force, they have very low melting and boiling points. Hence, Both (A) and (R) are correct but (R) is not the correct explanation of (A).
