As per given figure A, B and C are the first, second and third excited energy levels of hydrogen atom respectively. If the ratio of the two wavelengthsi.e. λ1λ2 is 74n, then the value of n will be

Solution

For λ1

1λ1=RZ2(122-132)=R536   ...(i)

For λ2,

1λ2=RZ2(132-142)=R7144   ...(ii)

Dividing (ii) by (i)

λ1λ2=7144536=720

So, 

74n=720n=5
