An organic compound $\left(\mathrm{C}_3 \mathrm{H}_9 \mathrm{~N}\right)(A)$, when treated with nitrous acid, gave an alcohol and $\mathrm{N}_2$ gas was evolved. $(A)$ on warming with $\mathrm{CHCl}_3$ and caustic potash gave (C) which on reduction gave iso-propylmethylamine. Predict the structure of $(A)$.

Solution

On treating with nitrous acid primary a mine gives an alcohol and $\mathrm{N}_2$ gas. So, ' $A$ ' should be a primary amine.
