(a) An electric heater rated 1100 W operates at 220 V. Calculate
(i) its resistance, and (ii) the current drawn by it.
OR
(b) Calculate the equivalent resistance of the following electric circuit :
Solution
(a) P(Power) = V(Potential difference) × I(Current)
Here P = 1100 W, V = 220 V, I = ?, R = ?
P = V²/R
(i) R = V²/P
= 220V × 220V / 1100W = 44 Ω
(ii) I = V/R
I(Current) = V/R = 220V/44Ω = 5 A
