An alcohol $\mathrm{X}\left(\mathrm{C}_4 \mathrm{H}_{10} \mathrm{O}\right)$ does not give turbidity with conc. HCl and $\mathrm{ZnCl}_2$ at room temperature. X on reaction with reagent Y gives Z . What are $\mathrm{X}, \mathrm{Y}$ and Z respectively?




Solution

Lucas test generally used to distinguish $1^{\circ}, 2^{\circ}$ and $3^{\circ}$ alc. $1^{\circ}$ alcohol does give any turbidity at room temperature so $\mathrm{C}_4 \mathrm{H}_{10} \mathrm{O}$ is $1^{\circ}$ alcohol.
