In \(\mathrm{P}=\mathrm{O}\) bond, \(\pi\) - bond is formed by the sidewise overlapping of \(\mathrm{d}\) - orbital of \(\mathrm{P}\) and \(\mathrm{p}\) - orbital of oxygen. Hence, it is formed by \(\mathrm{p} \pi\) and \(\mathrm{d} \pi\) overlapping.
