Among the following free radical bromination reactions, select those in which \(2^{\circ}\) halide is the major product -
  1. \(\mathrm{P}, \mathrm{Q}, \mathrm{R}, \mathrm{S}\)
  2. \(\mathrm{P}, \mathrm{R}, \mathrm{U}\)
  3. \(\mathrm{P}, \mathrm{R}, \mathrm{S}, \mathrm{T}\)
  4. \(\mathrm{P}, \mathrm{Q}, \mathrm{R}, \mathrm{S}, \mathrm{T}\)

Solution

Bromine is more selective
\(\therefore\) it will form \(3^{\circ}\) halide if there is presence of \(3^{\circ}\) hydrogen.
\(\therefore Q, S, T\) form \(3^{\circ}\) halide as major and \(\mathrm{P}, \mathrm{R}, \mathrm{U}\) form \(2^{\circ}\) halide as major.
