A vector makes equal angles α with x and y axes and 90° with z-axis. Then α=
  1. 60 or 120
  2. 30 or 150
  3. 45 or 135
  4. 90

Solution

We know, the sum of squares of direction cosines of a line is 1

cos2α+cos2β+cos2γ=1

Here given that α=β and γ=90°

cos2α+cos2α+cos290°=1

2cos2α=1  cos90°=0

cos2α=12

cosα=±12

α=45° or 135°
