A thin light weight rod of diamagnetic substance such as silver is suspended in uniform external magnetic field. It will align itself with its length
  1. perpendicular to magnetic field.
  2. inclined at an angle $120^{\circ}$ to magnetic field.
  3. inclined at an angle $45^{\circ}$ to magnetic field.
  4. parallel to magnetic field.

Solution

When placed in an external magnetic field, diamagnetic substances become weakly magnetized in the opposite direction. When a dimagnetic substance is suspended freely in a homogeneous magnetic field, it becomes perpendicular to the field.
