A purple colored compound of Manganese (X) decomposes on heating to liberate oxygen and forms compounds of Manganese ( Y and Z ) compound Z reacts with KOH in presence of potassium nitrate to give compound Y. Compounds X,Y and Z respectively are
  1. X-KMnO4  Y-Mn2O7  Z-MnO2
  2. X-K2MnO4Y-KMnO4Z-Mn2O7
  3. X-KMnO4Y-K2MnO4Z-MnO2
  4. X-KMnO4  Y-MnO2  Z-MnO

Solution

The compound X is KMnO4. It gives on heating the oxygen and K2MnO4 and MnO2MnO2 formed the K2MnO4 on reaction with potassium hydroxide in presence of the potassium nitrate.

KMnO4(X) Heating K2MnO4(Y)+MnO2(Z) +O2

MnO2(Z) +KOH/KNO3K2MnO4(Y)

Hence, the compounds X,Y and Z respectively are X-KMnO4Y-K2MnO4Z-MnO2.
