A pie chart gives the expenditure on five different items A, B, C, D and E in a household. If B, C, D and E correspond to 90 degrees, 50 degrees, 45 degrees and 75 degrees respectively, then what is the percentage of expenditure on item A?
  1. 112/9
  2. 125/6
  3. 155/9
  4. 250/9

Solution

A full pie chart is 360 degrees. The angle for A = $360 - (90 + 50 + 45 + 75) = 100$ degrees. So the percentage of expenditure on A = $(100/360) \times 100 = 250/9$ %.
