A particle executing simple harmonic motion along a straight line with an amplitude A, attains maximum potential energy when its displacement from mean position equals

Solution

The total mechanical energy in a simple harmonic motion is conserved, therefore for potential energy to be maximum, the kinetic should be minimum and for kinetic energy to be minimum the displacement of the particle from the mean is maximum.

The displacement of the particle from equilibrium position is maximum when it's equal to the extreme position from mean position that is amplitude ±A.
