A nucleus disintegrates into two smaller parts, which have their velocities in the ratio 3:2. The ratio of their nuclear sizes will be x313. The value of ‘x’ is:

Solution

Given here, v1v2=32

Using conservation of momentum during disintegration, we have

m1v1=m2v2m1 m2=23

Since, m=43πR3ρ

We have mR3  nuclear mass density, ρ=constant

m1m2=R1R23

R1R2=2313

So, x=2.
