(a) [Diagram: bar magnet showing curved field lines from N to S pole, two variants labelled a and b] P – North pole ; Q – South pole or R – North pole ; S – South pole (b) The magnetic field lines emerge from the North-pole and merge to South-pole outside the magnet. (Inside the magnet the direction is from South pole to North pole.) Alternative answer :- Closed curves which emerge from North pole and merge at the South pole.
