A line passes through A 4 , − 6 , − 2 and B 16 , − 2 , 4 . The point P a , b , c where a , b , c are…

A line passes through A4,6,2 and B16,2,4. The point Pa,b,c where a,b,c are non-negative integers, on the line AB lies at a distance of 21 units, from the point A. The distance between the points Pa,b,c and Q4,12,3 is equal to ______.

Solution

Given,

A line passes through A4,6,2 and B16,2,4,

So, the equation of line will be x412=x+64=z+26

x46=x+62=z+23

So, the direction cosines will be 662+22+32,262+22+32,362+22+32

67,27,37

Now, given point Pa,b,c lies on the line AB and at a distance of 21 from point A

So, by using the equation of line AB we get,

a467=b+627=c+237=21

21×67+4,27×216,37×212a,b,c

22,0,7a,b,c

Hence, the distance between P22,0,7 & Q4,-12,3 is given by, 324+144+16=22
