A green coloured solution of same salt changes its colour to light pink on passing ozone through it. Which…
- \(\mathrm{MnO}_{4}^{2-}\) and \(\mathrm{MnO}_{4}\)
- \(\mathrm{Mn}^{2+}\) and \(\mathrm{MnO}_{2}\)
- \(\mathrm{MnO}_{4}^{-}\)and \(\mathrm{MnO}_{4}{ }^{2-}\)
- \(\mathrm{Cu}^{+}\)and \(\mathrm{Cu}^{2+}\)
Solution
The green coloured solution can be potassium manganate solution $\left(\mathrm{K}_{2} \mathrm{MnO}_{4}ight)$ having manganate ion $\left(\mathrm{MnO}_{4}{ }^{2-}ight)$.
The light pink solution can be Potassium permonganate $\left(\mathrm{kMnO}_{4}ight)$ having permangate ion $\left(\mathrm{Mn} O_{4}^{-}ight)$,
Ozone oxidizes $\dot{M}_{n}^{+6} O_{4}^{2-}$ (green in colour) to $\mathrm{Mn}^{+7} \mathrm{O}_{4}^{-}$(Light pink in colour). /
