A diatomic gas (γ=1.4) does 200 J of work when it is expanded isobarically. The heat given to the gas in the process is :
  1. 850 J
  2. 800 J
  3. 600 J
  4. 700 J

Solution

For degree of freedom, we can write

γ=1+2f=1.42f=0.4

f=5

For isobaric process, W=nRΔT=200 J.

Now, we can write

Q=f+22nRΔT

=72×200=700 J
