A cell can supply currents of 1 A and 0.5 A via resistances of 2.5 Ω and 10 Ω respectively. The internal resistance of the cell is
  1. 2 Ω
  2. 3 Ω
  3. 4 Ω
  4. 5 Ω

Solution

Let the internal resistance of the cell be r and the potential difference be V. Then,

1=V2.5+r

And 0.5=V10+r

Solving the above two equations simultaneously,

r=5 Ω
