A body is released from a height of 30 m vertically downwards. The speed of the body at which potential energy is twice that of kinetic energy is (Acceleration due to gravity =10 m s-2)
  1. 202 m s-1
  2. 102 m s-1
  3. 10 m s-1
  4. 20 m s-1

Solution

Suppose at velocity v,potential energy of body is twice that of kinetic energy.

Using energy conservation-

mgH=KEf+PEf  1

Since PEf=2×KEf

Put this value in equation 1-

mgH=3×KEf

  mgH=3×12mv2

  v=23gH

  v=102  m s-1
