A black hole is an object whose gravitational field is so strong that even light cannot escape from it. To what approximate radius would earth mass=5.98×1024kg have to be compressed to be a black hole?
  1. 10-9m
  2. 10-6m
  3. 10-2m
  4. 100 m

Solution

According to question the light is unable to escape the gravitational pull of the black hole thus the escape velocity is equal to the speed of the light so,
Escape velocity is Ve=C.
We know that escape velocity is given by,

2GMR=3×108

Putting in the values we get,
2×203×10-116×1024R=3×108

Thus, on solving we get,
 R9 mm10-2m
