A $2\hspace{0.17em}\mathrm{V}$ battery is connected across $AB$ as shown in the figure. The value of the current supplied by the battery when in first case battery's positive terminal is connected to $A$ and in second case when positive terminal of battery is connected to $B$ will respectively be:

1. $\mathrm{0.2 }\mathrm{A}$ and $\mathrm{0.1 }\mathrm{A}$
2. $\mathrm{0.1 }\mathrm{A}$ and $\mathrm{0.2 }\mathrm{A}$
3. $\mathrm{0.2 }\mathrm{A}$ and $\mathrm{0.4 }\mathrm{A}$
4. $\mathrm{0.4 }\mathrm{A}$ and $\mathrm{0.2 }\mathrm{A}$

Solution

When $+\text{ve}$ polarity is connected to $\text{A}$

Then $D_1$ is forward biased and $D_2$ is reversed biased i.e.



$\therefore$ $I_1$ current through $D_1=\frac{2}{5}=0.4 \mathrm{A}$

When $+\text{ve}$ polarity is connected to $\text{B}$ then $D_2$ is forward biased and $D_1$ is reversed biased then



$\Rightarrow I_2=\frac{2}{10}=\mathrm{0.2 }\mathrm{A}$
